Sonia Aniceto é licenciada em Pintura pela Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, Entre o ano 2000 e 2006 trabalhou nos ateliers de cenografia da Ópera Real La Monnaie onde contatou com grandes nomes da cenografia internacional. Recebe, em 2007 a nomeação para os Prémios Talento na categoria das Artes Visuais (Prémio atribuído pelo Ministério de Negócios Estrangeiros de Portugal). Desenvolve a sua carreira na Bélgica, França, Alemanha, Portugal e EUA, onde o seu trabalho é representado em galerias, coleções publicas e privadas.
Sonia Aniceto has a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. Between 2000 and 2006, she worked in the scenography ateliers of the Royal Opera La Monnaie, where she came into contact with great names in international scenography. In 2007, she was nominated for the Talent Awards in the Visual Arts Category (awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal). She develops her career in Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal and the USA, where her work is represented in galleries or public and private collections.

Artist Statement
No centro, a TEIA. O corpo é omnipresente. Adivinhamo-lo através do que fora um “vestido” que se estende e invade o espaço como uma pele, uma rede de pescador. A TEIA expande-se ora ordenada, ora aleatória, evocando um complexo topográfico imaginário, um território sonhado. Partilhado, conquistado, conhecido, reconhecido, apropriado, movimentado, familiar… tantos são os verbos que permitem “criar” território. Tantas formas de habitar o mundo que metamorfoseiam o ser. Tal como o corpo, o território é um lugar geográfico, um espaço vivido, atravessado de afetos, um lugar de jogo e de simulacro. O território é acidentado e composto por dobras. Os relevos costurados podem, em qualquer momento, escapar e alargar o espaço para além dos limites do suporte. A linha marca, mas o horizonte é vasto e anuncia um espaço sem limites. A imaginação pontua as distâncias. Livre, o caminhante avança, contorna as fendas, caminha nas cristas e evita a queda.
Não há pressa, o tempo está suspenso.
Exposta pela primeira vez em Portugal, a TEIA é uma obra têxtil colaborativa, “in situ” e proteiforme que tem vindo a evoluir desde 2017. Concebida como uma reflexão sobre as ligações intergeracionais, trabalhada a quatro mãos, a TEIA evolui com a contribuição da minha mãe. Pensado sobretudo, a partir da necessidade de reconexão, este projeto retece o cordão, alivia o meu desenraizamento e atenua a distancia. Reatar para melhor questionar a ideia de itinerância que percorre a exposição Á partida autobiográfica, esta obra contém as bases temáticas do meu trabalho recente: o lugar e o corpo.

In the centre, TEIA. The body is omnipresent. We imagine it through what was once a "dress" that extends and invades the space like a skin, a fisherman's net. TEIA expands, either ordered or random, evoking an imaginary topographic complex, a dream territory. Shared, conquered, known, recognized, appropriated, moved, familiar ... so many verbs that allow us to "create" territory. So many ways of inhabiting the world that metamorphoses the being. Like the body, the territory is a geographical and a lived space, crossed by affections, a place of game and simulacrum. The territory is rugged and composed by folds. The sewn reliefs can, at any moment, escape and expand the space beyond the limits of the support. The line set a mark, but the horizon is vast and announces a boundless space. Imagination punctuates the distances. Free, the walker advances, goes around the cracks, walks on the ridges and avoids the fall.
There is no hurry, time is suspended.
Exhibited for the first time in Portugal, TEIA is a collaborative, in situ and proteiform textile work that has been evolving since 2017. Conceived as a reflection on cross-generational connections, worked by four hands, TEIA evolves with my mother's contribution. Created out of a need for re-connection, this project ties the thread, eases my uprooting and mitigates the distance. Initially autobiographical, this work contains the thematic basis of my recent work: the place and the body.
My desire is to continue to develop this work as long as my mother can and wants to crochet for me. Thank you mom. (Maria Joaquina Aniceto)
