Quo Vadis Godot?
“À espera de Godot” foi umas das peças ícones do “teatro do absurdo” - designação criada, em 1961, pelo crítico húngaro radicado na Inglaterra, Martin Esslin (1918-2002), para sintetizar uma definição que agrupasse as obras de dramaturgos de diversos países, as quais, apesar de serem completamente diferentes nas suas formas, tinham como ponto central o tratamento inusitado de aspectos inesperados da vida humana.
Ninguém sabe quem é o Godot. Baseada na peça de teatro, escrita em 1948 por Samuel Beckett, que relata a história de dois personagens que anseiam a chegada do Godot, sem saberem quem ele é e quando vem, esta exposição vai ao encontro de um passeio que o Sr. Godot faz, revisitando uma série de peças de teatro intemporais, desde a “Antígona” de Sófocles, até à peça “Do alto da Ponte” de Arthur Miller.
Durante esse passeio, Godot não só se vai cruzando com diversas peças de teatro, como vai encontrando personagens que reagem de diversas maneiras ao se cruzarem com ele. Por que andará Godot a passear pelo meio dessas pessoas? Para onde irá? Quem são estas pessoas que se cruzam com ele?
Godot pode ser Deus, pode ser o super herói que todos nós ambicionamos que exista e que vai corrigir o mundo. Mas Godot pode também ser um Ego, com muitas e diferentes formas, um reflexo de nós próprios…

“Waiting for Godot” was one of the iconic pieces of “Theatre of the Absurd” - a name created in 1961 by the Hungarian critic Martin Esslin (1918-2002), based in England, to synthesize a definition that grouped the works of playwrights of different countries, which, despite being completely different in their forms, had as their central point the unusual treatment of unexpected aspects of human life. Nobody knows who Godot is. Based on the play, written in 1948 by Samuel Beckett, which tells the story of two characters who long for the arrival of Godot, without knowing who he is and when he comes, this exhibition is in line with a walk that Mr. Godot takes , revisiting a series of timeless plays, from Sophocles' “Antigone” to Arthur Miller's “From Alto da Ponte”. During this tour, Godot not only comes across different plays, but also meets characters who react in different ways when they cross paths with him. Why is Godot walking among these people? Where will you go? Who are these people who cross paths with him? Godot can be God, he can be the superhero that we all aspire to exist and who will correct the world. But Godot can also be an Ego, with many different forms, a reflection of ourselves…
