Laura Wenmaekers (1994, France) is a painter and painting instructor at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, where she graduated in 2020. During her studies, she learned academic methods and “discovered the value and beauty of using these tools to express myself the way I always wanted, through more realistic and sensitive images.” After receiving the academy’s fourth-year award, she began her teaching career as an assistant, later becoming a principal instructor. She currently divides her time between teaching at the academy and her studio, Atelier Mimèsis, which she shares with two French sculptors, where they work on their own projects, run workshops, and offer private instruction. Her artistic practice focuses on figural and portrait painting, with particular attention to the female figure. She works exclusively from live models and uses traditional techniques of classical painting, exploring identity, emotion, and contemporary notions of femininity.
