A exposição Callisto marca um novo momento na prática artística de Laura Wenmaekers, no qual a artista explora múltiplas dimensões da identidade feminina. As suas pinturas revelam diferentes estados emocionais e energias, apresentando a mulher como uma presença complexa, versátil e em constante transformação. É precisamente nesta multiplicidade que Wenmaekers encontra uma profunda sensação de beleza e empoderamento. Através de composições que oscilam entre o narrativo e o intimista, incluindo retratos alla prima, a artista cria um espaço onde o espectador é convidado a estabelecer uma ligação pessoal e intuitiva com as figuras representadas. Trabalhando exclusivamente a partir do modelo vivo e recorrendo a métodos académicos tradicionais, cada obra resulta de um processo contínuo de observação e interpretação, captando gestos e expressões fugazes que se materializam na tela.
The exhibition Callisto marks a new moment in Laura Wenmaekers’ artistic practice, in which the artist explores multiple dimensions of female identity. Her paintings reveal different emotional states and energies, presenting women as complex, versatile presences in a constant state of transformation. It is precisely within this multiplicity that Wenmaekers finds a profound sense of beauty and empowerment. Through compositions that move between the narrative and the intimate, including alla prima portraits, the artist creates a space in which the viewer is invited to establish a personal and intuitive connection with the figures depicted. Working exclusively from live models and drawing on traditional academic methods, each work emerges from an ongoing process of observation and interpretation, capturing fleeting gestures and expressions that materialize on the canvas.
Laura Wenmaekers (1994, França)
Laura Wenmaekers (1994, França) é artista e instrutora de pintura na Florence Academy of Art, em Florença, Itália, onde se formou em 2020. Durante os seus estudos, aprendeu métodos académicos e “descobriu o valor e a beleza de usar estas ferramentas para expressar-me da forma como sempre quis, através de imagens mais realistas e sensíveis”. Após receber o prémio do quarto ano da academia, iniciou a sua carreira docente como assistente, tornando-se depois instrutora principal. Atualmente, divide o seu tempo entre o ensino na academia e o seu estúdio, Atelier Mimèsis, que partilha com dois escultores franceses, onde desenvolvem projetos próprios, realizam workshops e dão aulas particulares. A sua prática artística foca-se na pintura figurativa e de retrato, com especial atenção à figura feminina. Trabalha exclusivamente com modelo ao vivo e técnicas tradicionais da pintura clássica, explorando identidade, emoção e noções contemporâneas de feminilidade. Laura Wenmaekers (1994, France) is a painter and painting instructor at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, where she graduated in 2020. During her studies, she learned academic methods and “discovered the value and beauty of using these tools to express myself the way I always wanted, through more realistic and sensitive images.” After receiving the academy’s fourth-year award, she began her teaching career as an assistant, later becoming a principal instructor. She currently divides her time between teaching at the academy and her studio, Atelier Mimèsis, which she shares with two French sculptors, where they work on their own projects, run workshops, and offer private instruction. Her artistic practice focuses on figural and portrait painting, with particular attention to the female figure. She works exclusively from live models and uses traditional techniques of classical painting, exploring identity, emotion, and contemporary notions of femininity.
