How it starts the “process”?
O processo inicia-se pela fotografia onde fotografo modelos ou pessoas no seu quotidiano e intimidade. Trabalho por cima de trabalhos antigos e experimentações explorando composições que ficam visíveis sob as camadas recentes anulando um tempo exato que funde a figuração e que cria uma certa abstração.
The process starts from photography where I capture the model or person in his/hers everyday life. I work over old paintings and experiments, exploring compositions that stays visible under recent layers annulling a exact moment that merges the figurative and creates a certain abstraction.
Utilizas diversos suportes e materiais nas tuas pinturas. Como acontece essa seleção?
You use different supports and materials in your paintings. How does this selection happen?
Sempre gostei de explorar e de aplicar novos materiais na pintura, quando fui estudar para Coimbra nunca me limitei a pintar apenas em tela de linho ou algodão, passava muito tempo no atelier de escultura observando que materiais se utilizavam e depois tentava ver qual a utilidade dos mesmos para as minhas necessidades plásticas. A parafina, vernizes e resinas são materiais que ainda utilizo frequentemente. A seleção depende do que mostrar/ocultar, no caso da parafina utilizo-a para tornar indefinido o objeto pintado.
I've always liked exploring and applying new materials in painting, when I went to study at Coimbra I've never limited myself to paint only on linen canvas or cotton canvas, I spent a lot of time at the sculptor's atelier observing what materials where used, and then try to figure their utility to my visual art needs. Paraffin, varnish and resins are materials witch I still use frequently. The selection depends of what to show/hide, regarding paraffin, I utilize it to make the painted object undefined.

What’s something, apparently unfinished?
O aparentemente inacabado é tão simplesmente quando eu me sinto feliz com o que já está representado. Sugere uma narrativa aberta, livre e espontânea da minha procura pela essência do que quero passar para o observador, é uma forma de diálogo em que se mistura o processo criativo com experiências em que o objeto da pintura é fragmentado e inacabado, algo que nunca se revela por inteiro.
The apparently unfinished its simply when I feel happy with what is represented. It suggest an open narrative, free and spontaneous from my search of the essence of what I want to pass to the observer, its a form of dialogue, in witch you merge the creative process with experiences with the painted object that is fragmented and unfinished, something that is not entirely revealed.
Existe algo curioso no teu trabalho, por diversas vezes, abordas a cegueira… a ausência da perceção visual….
There’s something curious on your work, for several times, you approach the blindness… absence of visual perception…
Esta cegueira é uma coisa vária, abordo a cegueira por motivos diferentes. Pode ser uma cegueira por excesso de ver, por excesso de informação visual. Gosto de desconstruir e de criar paradoxos e um retrato é sempre algo que representa alguém, que identifica e dá individualidade ao Ser, porém o que me fascina quando faço retratos é precisamente o contrário, acontece a desfragmentação e a ocultação da individualidade do Ser.
This blindness its something diverse, I approach blindness for different motives. it might be a blindness caused by overseeing or by excess of visual information. I like to deconstruct and create paradoxes and a portrait is always a representation of someone, that identifies and gives individuality to the Being. Although what truly fascinates me when I do portraits its precisely the opposite, defragmentation happens as the occultation of the individuality of the Being.
