A exposição "the everyman" nasce de uma investigação da artista plástica Mariana Duarte Santos, sobre toda a carreira televisiva e cinematográfica de um “character actor” - John Anderson. Character actors são por norma atores que nunca têm um papel principal, representam sempre personagens secundárias, que muitas vezes passam despercebidos.
Nesta série de trabalho baseada em still frames de filmes e séries de televisão em que este ator participou, a artista apresenta narrativas ambíguas sobre vidas de personagens imaginadas representadas por atores esquecidos.
The exhibition "the everyman" was born from an investigation by the artist Mariana Duarte Santos, about the entire television and cinema career of a “character actor” - John Anderson. Character actors are usually actors who never have a main role, they always play secondary characters, who often go unnoticed. In this series of artworks based on still frames from films and television series in which this actor participated, the artist presents ambiguous narratives about the lives of imagined characters represented by forgotten actors.

Sempre adorei a cultura destas décadas, principalmente no que toca à música, mas foi quando comecei a ver o Twilight Zone (1959-1964) que me apercebi da quantidade de imagens extremamente marcantes e relativamente esquecidas que foram produzidas tanto no cinema como também na televisão durante esta altura, os planos inesperados, a estética do film noir e os diferentes ambientes criados. Em grande contraste com os dias de hoje em que tudo parece muito mais clínico e formatado.
I’ve always loved the culture from these decades, especially when it comes to music. But it was after watching The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) that I realised the amount of extremely impactful and relatively forgotten images that were produced in cinema and also in television during this time, the unexpected frames, the film noir aesthetic and the different atmospheres and ambiences created. All of this in high contrast with the current days, where everything seems a lot more clinical and formatted.
