His painting underline the strong contrast between light and shadow, associating light with the visible side and shadow with what's indefinite and not so evident.

Um artista fascinado e motivado pelas possibilidades que o retrato e a figura humana permitem na sua prática artística. Partindo da dualidade que existe entre a luz e a sombra, procuro explorar os dois lados presentes em cada figura. O lado iluminado e o lado obscuro.
An artist fascinated and motivated by the possibilities that portraits and the human figure allow in his artistic practice. Starting from the duality that exists between light and shadow, I try to explore the two sides present in each figure. The light side and the dark side.
Porquê “indefinido”? Why “undefined”?
Pessoalmente penso que nem sempre é necessário reproduzir tudo o que eu vejo.
Procuro uma representação das figuras próxima da realidade, reproduzindo apenas aquilo que é essencial sem saturar o observador com informação a mais. Gosto de deixar algo em aberto para o espectador… daí que os meus trabalhos tenham um lado “indefinido”.
Personally I think it's not always necessary to reproduce everything I see. I search for a representation of the figures close to reality, reproducing only what's essential without saturating the viewer with too much information. I like to leave something open to the viewer… that´s why my work has an “undefined” side.
O que procuras ao mergulhar entre a luz e sombra? What are you looking for on going deep between light and shadow?
Procuro jogar com o contraste entre a luz e a sombra. É algo que sempre me fascinou, tanto pelo lado óptico, como pela sua simbologia. Permite-me ver determinados efeitos que servem como ponto de partida para perceber o que hei de trazer à luz, e o que devo deixar indefinido.
I try to experience with the contrast between light and shadow. It's something that has always fascinated me, both optically and symbolically. It allows me to see certain effects that serve as a starting point for understanding what to bring to light, and what to leave undefined.

Ambos. Começa sempre pela observação do tema que quero trabalhar, só depois da execução é que faço as minhas reflexões. Procuro sempre melhorar a minha prática na pintura, expandir o meu conhecimento o máximo possível… Primeiro executo e depois penso...
Both. It always starts with the observation of the theme I want to work on, only after the execution I do my reflections. I always try to improve my practice in painting, expand my knowledge as much as possible… First I execute and then I think...
