Andrew Beck (b. 1974, England) is a British-born painter based in Ottawa, Canada. Inspired from an early age by the work of René Magritte, Beck developed a fascination with images that evoke mystery and ambiguity. After studying Graphic Design at Coventry University, he built a successful career in graphic design, illustration, and game development before dedicating himself fully to painting following his move to Canada in 2016. Working largely as a self-taught artist, Beck creates meticulously crafted realist paintings that subtly disrupt everyday reality. His compositions often suggest unseen events, impossible arrangements, or narratives left unresolved, inviting viewers to question what lies beyond the frame. His work reflects influences ranging from surrealism to American realism, recalling artists such as Edward Hopper while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice.
