Álvaro de Matías, Ávila 1984. Licenciado em Belas Artes pela Universidade de Salamanca e Técnico Superior em Artes Aplicadas em Escultura na Escola de Arte de Salamanca. Ao longo do seu percurso têm-lhe atribuído várias bolsas de estudo para realizar residências artísticas, participou em diversos cursos de desenho e escultura como a "Catedra de Francisco de Goya" ministrada por Julio López e Antonio López em Ávila ou "III Curso Internacional de Consciência Arte Histórica e Contemporânea. A produção do discurso artístico” pela Universidade de Salamanca.
Álvaro de Matias está representado em diversas coleções, nomeadamente no MEAM – Museu Europeu de Arte Moderna (Barcelona), Museu Luís de Morales (Badajoz), Museu Municipal de Valdepeñas, entre outros.

Throughout his career, he has been awarded several scholarships to carry out artistic residencies, he participated in several drawing and sculpture courses such as the "Francisco de Goya Cathedral" given by Julio López and Antonio López in Ávila or the "III International Course of Consciousness Historical and Contemporary Art: The Production of Artistic Discourse” by the University of Salamanca.
Álvaro de Matias is represented in several collections, namely at MEAM – European Museum of Modern Art (Barcelona), Luís de Morales Museum (Badajoz), Municipal Museum of Valdepeñas, among others.

Artist Statement A obra escultórica propõe como objeto principal a figura do próprio ser humano, procuro através dos diferentes indivíduos que a compõem, atitudes e expressões reconhecíveis em todos os de nós, em cada um e na sociedade comum. O corpo, aquela presença física, sem a qual a alma não poderia existir, é fundamental para nós. Nele vemos reconhecidos todos os indivíduos, é um "algo" universal, um símbolo. A representação da mimese da realidade, mas não apenas em termos da forma física do ser humano, mas abordando os diferentes estados de espírito e sentimentos que compõem o indivíduo, do qual não podemos nos livrar e que, de alguma forma, muitas vezes acabam sendo um fardo para cada um. Uma busca de significados, de interpretação, um imaginário e projeção subjetiva da realidade; assumindo como real, não a figura em si, mas a existência de um espírito, de uma alma cultural e social que contém cada comunidade, cada grupo social. Um espaço fictício em que membros, troncos e rostos transmitem a ideia de seres que sofrem, ou não, diante da realidade que lhes é apresentada.
The sculptural work proposes as its main object the figure of the human being itself, I look through the different individuals that compose it, attitudes and expressions recognizable in all of us, in each one and in common society. The body, that physical presence without which the soul could not exist, is fundamental to us. In it we see all individuals recognized, it is a universal "something", a symbol. The mimesis representation of reality, but not just in terms of the physical form of the human being, but addressing the different states of mind and feelings that make up the individual, which we cannot get rid of and which, in some way, often end up being a burden for each one. A search for meanings, for interpretation, an imaginary and subjective projection of reality; assuming as real, not the figure itself, but the existence of a spirit, of a cultural and social soul that contains each community, each social group. A fictional space in which limbs, trunks and faces convey the idea of beings who suffer or not, in the face of the reality that is presented to them.
